How to plan the perfect private hiking trip

To pull off the perfect private hiking trip, or skiing or biking trip, you need to be the queen of preparation and strive for excellence. You also need to allow for the fact that every trip flexes and morphs when it comes to the real event, too. Alpine itineraries are as variable as the weather. Hiking trails will be good on some days and not suitable on other days, so you need to be prepared with a plan B. The perfect private hiking trip involves preparing for excellence leaving just a margin for magic.

Perfect private trip preparation

So what does that mean for trip preparation? For me it means traveling to the region. Even if I know it well I still go, imagine the days and tweak the routes and timings. It means trying the activity if you have not done it before. It means riding the trails or skiing the descents. Admittedly, we do this anyway in our spare time.

Time is our most important commodity

Once the perfect private hiking trip has started you will not have time for conversations or anything that is not involved in the trip. All the service providers need to know what is coming, who is coming and what to expect. These little details make all the difference and ensure that the trip runs smoothly. It also gives you the latitude to change things at the last minute because you know you have your bases covered.

Nothing but excellence

“You never let go of control, you are such a perfectionist”… does this sound familiar? Hmm it does to me. And many of my clients would relate to this. Well, it is with this spirit of excellence that we forge ahead with our trip planning. We want your trip to be perfect and while we know that perfection is not easy, especially when working in Europe, it is nice to come as close to it as possible. In fact, our goal is for you to really relax when you are with us and have the confidence to let us handle the details, even as they change. We want you to be certain that we will also be looking for perfection. Any new plan needs to be considered regarding trail time, travel time, view, accessibility and, of course, safety.

It takes a (local) village

If you are not traveling with a company who are based in the region you are not getting the perfect private hiking trip. Have you heard the saying “it takes a village”? Well, it takes a village, even a few villages and some pretty large and extensive networks to make these sorts of trip work. Picking up on local news while out and about on your daily tasks is essential, as is meeting key new people that facilitate your work. It is living and being and skiing and hiking in your community. And in my case, in all of the three countries on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis that I know what is going on.

So if you are looking for the perfect private hiking trip this summer give us a call and we will make magic for you.

Warm regards from the mountains
