Luxury biking in the Alps this summer

Its official: luxury biking the Alps has taken off. This is not surprising with the choice of bikes that we have now. What’s important is choosing the bike that is best for the conditions of the area you are in. We’ve found that in some of our ski areas, for example Zermatt, an off-road bike is the best. We also find that biking in the Alps, in luxury of course, is best combined with some hiking. This is because some of the most beautiful trails are just too dangerous to bike.

Take your luxury biking in the Alps from place to place

Of course the advantage of being on a bike is that you can get further than on foot. There are some areas where we would even suggest an electric bike. It allows you to cover the terrain and reach that glacier at the end of a long valley. All of a sudden the bike makes sense. Once again, in any area of the Alps there will be trails that are best hiked and not biked, so if we combine the two we get the best of both worlds. We know when long, knee-destroying hikes can be done better on a bike, and when narrow trails with death-defying drop offs are best done on foot.

Where does the luxury come in?

We believe that good physical activity should be rewarded with a great bed, a wonderful meal and a sampling of local wine at the end of the day. Rather than look at these elements as separate we have always found that experiencing the local cuisine, wine and people are all a part of the adventure.

Do I need to be super fit to bike in the Alps?

This is where careful planning comes in. You can access every level of luxury biking in the Alps. It  requires good trip planning to choose the right places. We have the right options for you. For example, a keen road biker who likes to cover distance will find the ski stations at the end of a long lateral valley, like Zermatt, are not ideal. However, there are areas in the middle of the Valais region where you can radiate out from for some spectacular road biking. At this point you need to choose the level you want to bike at. In mountain terrain we have a lot of vertical to climb. Plan carefully if flat is your thing. Flat terrain can be found, but it might better in this case to combine flat biking with some hiking to enjoy variety on your trip.

What about biking more than one country during our trip?

Yes, yes and yes. This is what we do. We love to take you luxury biking in the Alps from country to country. The biking will be varied and interesting, as is the nature of a trip that takes you from country to country. We believe that nothing beats this experience. We often say that the difference in culture, food, architecture, design and scenery is just fabulous and the variety in such a small geographical area makes these sorts of trip so special. Those of us who come from large countries where we have hours and hours of the same terrain appreciate this most perhaps. Riding from boutique hotel to boutique hotel in charming little villages is the way to go.

So if you are ready for an active vacation and you want to mix it up a bit, give us a call. We are ready and waiting to plan your next luxury biking trip in the Alps.

Warm regards from the mountains,

Danielle
