Privately guided Australia

Privately guided Australia

It’s official: after years of my guests asking me if I would organise a privately guided trip in Australia for them, I have finally decided to do it. This trip will be for my guests who understand and enjoy the style of travel that I like to provide. What does that mean, you ask? It means it will be a safari, with lots of activity, privately guided, small and intimate. An authentic experience where you feel like a local and you will meet the locals.

Foot, bike, hike, boat, helicopter and plane

I have often thought when I go back to Australia how I would love to see Australia the way I show people the European Alps. It is not enough to be an observer. The only way to really understand a place is to push up your sleeves and participate. Obviously, our privately guided safari will not be via ski in Australia, although we could do that too. It is best to do the best of what each country has to offer and in the European Alps that is skiing and hiking. In Australia that is experiencing the country by foot, bike, hike, boat, helicopter and plane.

Space and seasons

Australia is big, 186 times bigger than Switzerland to be exact. A land this big has different climates in the South and the North. So any trip planning in Australia needs to take the seasons into account. In the far north, there are some amazing spots to visit but it is very hot for most people, especially people not accustomed to such temperatures. In winter the south of the country gets cold. So, consider the season of your travel, it is important in Australia and it needs to be decided before making plans.

Absorb the sounds and smells

When hiking in the Blue Mountains, you can stay in the equivalent of a cabin in the bush in the middle of a nature reserve. This is the best way to absorb the sounds and smells of the Australian bush, which is like nowhere else in the world. With your private guide, become acquainted with the wildlife: koalas and kangaroos, perhaps an emu or an echidnas. Whale watch from a boat out in the ocean. Whales are protected in Australian coastal waters so more and more we enjoy their company as they multiply and travel up and down the coastline.

Pure beach

Why not transfer to a private island? Here you can catch and cook your own seafood and swim and snorkel in the clear blue waves from your private beach. This is something that we, Australians, grow up with. We may be a little biased but we think our white sandy beaches are some of the best in the world.

Remote cattle ranches

Would you like to know what it is like to live on a cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere? We know just the right spot for this in Australia. And while you are there, take a 4WD drive to explore the endless landscape. This might be the opportunity to learn about bush survival, how to find water and food in the bush. This is where being privately guided really comes into its own. You never know what you are going to find in this area of the country and a heli is on hand to help you have the best adventure. In these regions you are far from everything so the concept of moving from place to place means using other forms of transport.

Diving and snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef

Finally, it would be a shame to miss out on the Great Barrier Reef and the tropical islands in the North. There are many ways to discover this area, but by boat is our favourite as the reef is extensive and some of the better diving and snorkelling is far from the coast. Your guide will help you find the best coral not far from the surface. While scuba diving is an incredible activity, there is so much to see from the surface as well. In my past life as a scuba instructor on a dive boat off the coast of Cairns, I can assure you that the snorkelling and diving in this region will blow you away.

So here are just a few ideas for your privately guided Australia trip with Swisskisafari. Give us a call if you are ready for your next adventure.

Warm regards from the mountains,
